Vic Chesnutt and Elf Power Tour in Tandem
Publish Date: October 28, 2008 - 12:47am
Today marks the release of the album Dark Developments, the collaboration between Athens group Elf Power and singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt, and the two will head out on the road together for what is now planned as a seventeen date tour of the United States. Chesnutt and Elf Power both represent generationally important movements in the Athens, Georgia musical spectrum; Chesnutt, who has been produced by REM's Michael Stipe, is part of that eighties and early nineties continuum of musicians that also includes The B-52s and Love Tractor, while Elf Power owes its allegiance to the psychedelic upswing represented by the Elephant Six Collective - of which they were a part in the latter half of the last decade. Together, though, the two artists have created what the press release refers to as a "batch of songs with a sinister vibe not dissimilar to John Cale's black classic Fear, the harsh & articulate sleaze of Lou Reed's Street Hassle, or the defeated low-key soul music of Nick Lowe's last few records."
