New Indie Music on the Horizon

10/14 - The Secret Machines – Secret Machines

I haven’t heard anything about The Secret Machines since I was playing their first single as a DJ for WICB back in 2004. The Dallas natives will be following up their sophomore effort, Ten Silver Drops. Ten Silver Drops was the most successful US release for the band, peaking at #159 on the US charts.

10/21 - Electric Six – Flashy

I’ll admit – the most I know about Electric Six is that they used to sing that oddly catchy song “Gay Bar”, and I will forever associate them with the Internet meme, Spongemonkeys. Flashy will be Electric Six’s fifth album since they debuted in 2003.

10/21 - Matisyahu – Shattered EP

The reggae infused Jewish rapper – best known for the song “King Without A Crown”, returns with his first release of original music since 2006’s chart topping, Youth. Matisyahu is slated to release a full length album in early 2009.

10/21 - Of Montreal – Skeletal Lamping

If you aren’t a fan of almost sickenly sweet indie pop music, then Of Montreal probably isn’t for you. One of the former members of the Elephant 6 collective (Apples in Stereo, Elf Power, Beulah), Of Montreal follows up 2007’s critically acclaimed and commercially successful effort, Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?

10/28 - Bloc Party – Intimacy

Oh Bloc Party. Silent Alarm showed so much promise and potential. What happened? After 2006’s disappointing, A Weekend in the City, Bloc Party is back with another sub-par album. While Intimacy was already released online, today marks the first day you can buy the album in stores. Don’t get too excited now.

10/28 - Deerhunter – Microcastle

Deerhunter is one of those bands I want to like – but just can’t get into for some reason. They follow up 2007’s critically acclaimed album, Cryptograms.

10/28 - Kaiser Chiefs – Off With Their Heads

There was a time when “Oh My God” was my favorite song in the world. Sadly, that time has long since passed, and the Chiefs haven’t done much to impress since. However, the early word on Off With Their Heads is good – some early reviews have them compared to The Ramones in this release. It’s produced by Marc Ronson (Version) and features backing vocals by Lily Allen.
