The power of the B-side
Submitted by matt on Sun, 11/09/2008 - 00:11.The A-side and B-side have been around for half a century, each refering to the featured track (A-side, which a producer would believe to be a "hit") and another track (B-side) which was on the other side of the vinyl record which would not be released on the bands full album.
The B-side could be a number of things and was a great way for artists to give their fans a sample of music that was either unfinished at the time of release, an acoustic, a live performance, a track deemed not good enough for the album, or even a remix. Rarely the B-side would become more popular than the A-side but here are some examples you may or may not have known. I was surprised.
Domo arigato!
Submitted by matt on Wed, 10/29/2008 - 17:20.I was examining my playlist the other day and realized how much of it is currently electronica. I've always appreciated this genre of music because of it's driving bass and crazy robot sounds. The one instrument that has really sparked my interest as of late is the talk box, I've considered buying one of these with a small drum machine to do my own experimentation. I'm addicted. I will go into detail about this a little later.
Here we gooooooooooooooooooo!

The Monolith Experience Day 3/4
Submitted by matt on Tue, 09/23/2008 - 15:17.So, I've been pretty bad lately about blogging. Oh well, time to start wrapping this monolith thing up. Soooo, yeah.
We didn't have to wake up early since everything was already set up at the venue. Sleeping in was definitely a treat. We packed up more shirts which we sorted differently since it was kinda chaotic the day before. We had one mission, to get rid of all the shirts, easier said that done. The majority of the people we initially talked to when the gates opened had already stopped by the tent the day before. Although we struggled at first, we eventually got rid of all the shirts (minus the baby-ts) which was pretty awesome. Everything else was donated to charity since we didn't want to ship a few boxes back with us.
The Monolith Experience Day 2 Recap
Submitted by matt on Thu, 09/18/2008 - 17:43.I love cruising on little or no sleep. It makes you feel like you can handle just about...nothing? Well, we woke up early and packed up what we had ready. We ran into a problem with the shirts the day before (thanks Perez for hiding them...) but, thanks to my own flesh and blood UPS, we were good to go. Half of the group stayed back to sort half of our supply of shirts to give out for day 2 while the rest of us went to Red Rocks to set up.
The Monolith Experience Day 1 Recap
Submitted by matt on Wed, 09/17/2008 - 18:31.How do I describe this...? If only I had Sacha Baron Cohen handy to sound off some Borat quotes. I think a, "Very nice" is in order here. Unfortunately I'm going to have to break this up into parts or else I would probably get absolutely no work done here at MadeLoud. Anyways, here's a run down of what happened the first day of the trip.
@ the recording studio
Submitted by matt on Mon, 09/08/2008 - 17:49.It's been a while since I hit the blog but I've been getting a full blast of music related activities lately including recording with my band Down Faye, and preparing for my travels to the awesome 2008 Monolith Music Festival. Anyways, I'll cut to the chase. Have you or your buds struggled with recording? There is a light at the end of the tunnel, it's easier than you think.
They see me roll on...my Segway?
Submitted by matt on Wed, 08/27/2008 - 15:54.Are you a nerd and proud of it? Don't feel left out, there is a whole genre of music for you. "Nerdcore" is mainly a word that describes a genre as a whole leaving the sound and interpretation up to the artist or "MC." I was really hoping to find more concrete information about the genre and it's origins but my search is limited by what is arguably one of the most interpretive forms of music. You can be a nerdy rapper or have the geekiest rhymes on the block, but still be considered outside of the genre.

Submitted by matt on Mon, 08/18/2008 - 17:33.If you happened to turn on your television in the last 12 days or so you'd know about Michael Phelps. For those of you living a life of solitude under a rock, the man has won 8 gold medals making him the most winningest Olympian in a single Olympic Games, a record last held by Mark Spitz in the 1972 Olympics. Not only did he win 8 gold medals in all 8 events he competed in, he also managed to break 7 world records and 1 Olympic record in the process. How does someone accomplish such a feat? Could it be his genetically perfect and double jointed physique, years of experience, or even his 12,000 calorie diet?
Short and sweet
Submitted by matt on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 15:23.The Olympics have been going on for a few days now, I hope you're watching them. I have always been a huge fan of the summer games, how can you not be pumped about THE sporting event? One thing I will do possibly today or tomorrow is make an Olympic mp3 playlist and share it with everyone via this blog. In the spirit of the Olympic Games, Howard and I decided to have a competition of our own. I'll let you guys know how that goes at a later date.
