Poor Jack
Jack bought that old green field
where he first made love to you.
He's building a place of his own
so there he'd live with you
happily ever after.
But poor jack didn't know
only fools build homes with straw.
A wind came along,
and destroyed it all.
So Jack starts anew
and this time tries with wood.
He's determined to build that house,
just so you could
live happily ever after.
But poor jack didn't know
wood will surely burn,
and dear Jill that's a lesson
Jack would hardly learn
Jack found out down the road
there's a mansion built of stone
where HE keeps you safe and warm
while Jack is all ALONE
Poor Jack didn't know
love can leave you blind,
and the house where he keeps his heart
is collapsing now inside.
So now just charred pieces remain;
no drive to rebuild without you.
And his heart looks quite the same.
He'll never know what it's like to
live happily ever after.
