The definition of “alternative” changes around quite a bit, and varies by each artist's description. Some musicians fondly play in the vein of the alt-rock surge of the mid-'90s, when grunge, odd rock and the birth of indie rock all begin to find listeners in a vast, stale world of radio artists. To others, the term “alternative” means just that – not what you've heard before.
